Antibacterial wollastonite supported excellent proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of human bone marrow derived mesenchymal stromal cells

Biocompatibility and bacterial infections are the primary concerns associated with current bone graft substitutes. The application of wollastonite-based scaffolds for tissue engineering becomes a novel subject interest. In present study, single phasic wollastonite scaffold was synthesised using citric acid-based sol–gel combustion route. Its physicochemical characteristics, antibacterial properties as well its biocompatibility osteogenic induction effect on human marrow derived stromal cells (hBMSCs) yet to be explored. TGA/DTA, XRD SEM/EDX confirmed characteristics wollastonite. test indicated inhibition 47.81% 45.54% gram-positive, Staphylococcus aureus epidermidis 47.04% 46.07% gram-negative, Escherichia coli Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains, respectively.
